BUILDING A DECK IN 2017
If I’m building a deck in 2017, when should I get started?
As we write this in January, it’s cold, there is a chance we could see some snow or ice soon and going out in the yard to start thinking about an outdoor project isn’t at the top of the list. But now is the time get to work on your project.
Whether you are building a deck yourself or having a contractor build it for you, getting an early start is a good step. There are a lot of decisions to be made for your new deck. How big is it going to be? What types of products will you use for decking and railing?
How do I find a contractor that I can trust?
When you are building a deck, finding a good deck builder/contractor is important. You want to find someone who does quality work; someone who knows and understands today’s newest products; someone who’s core business building decks.
Quality deck builders who build all year long, like Outdoor Living, maintain an order file that could be several weeks long. If you wait until March or April to start this process, you may not see your deck completed until late summer or even fall. In April, if a contractor says he can start your deck next week, there is usually a reason. It might be a good idea to do a little more investigating. When building a deck to high standards, a good builder will get a lot of their work through referrals from previous customers. Poor ones don’t usually get referrals.
There is a wide choice of deck products, railing, lights, etc. that can make your deck look distinctive. Don’t limit your options by working with a contractor that represents only product line. Choosing the right product for your project can make your deck more enjoyable.
At Outdoor Living Inc. we have the broadest product line in the area in stock and on display. Choose from wood, capped composite or pvc decking. Railings are available in pvc, aluminum or composite.
